chaos
things have been quite hectic in my life lately, work, vacation, then ten times as much work, softball, flag football, poker night with friends and soon around the corner will be a bowling league and...of course...snowboarding, which consumes my winters.
that was the simplest run-down...here are the details.
at the beginning of september i left for a two week elk hunting trip. i went a week earlier than everyone else and met up with a guy, i met in denver in january, to set up base camp. that was a lot of work for a few guys. putting up tents, gathering firewood, setting up the kitchen, etc. everyone else arrived on a thursday and typically left the following thursday. altogether, at one time, there were 15 guys in camp. this elk hunt was amazing and i feel extremely lucky that i met this guy and he invited me, after only knowing him for 15 minutes while meeting on a light rail in denver. from base camp i voyaged into the backcountry on horse and stayed and hunted for 5 days and 5 night. the last night i was there by myself in an amazing storm, wind, rain, snow, thunder and lighting. the next morning i awoke and decided to head back to base camp, it was still pouring. so i loaded up a pack horse, to eliminate one trip, and my horse and made the 8 mile ride back to base camp. what a ride. i hunted one more day in the backcountry and then one more trip to pack up spike camp and pack out an elk shot the previous day. i didn't end up getting my elk but i did see elk everyday i hunted and i did have the time of a life and will surely return the following year. now i originally wanted to blog sooner about this experience and in more detail. time didn't permit me to do that and interest simply wore down. however, you can view pics of my vacation here. as i receive pictures from the rest of the guys i will be updating these and probably write a short post about the updates.
back to work and let me tell you that was no treat. i had three huge deadlines that were due in two weeks and it seemed that everyone was waiting for my return. the first week back i worked nearly 70 hrs. that's encouraging considering i'm salary. this week seems to be a bit more quiet but the deadlines are this friday and i still have plenty to do. now i ask you, what's the point of taking vacation when you work an inordinate amount of hours the week prior and post vacation to make up all the hours you so reluctantly used your vacation hours for? that baffles and annoys me and i'm looking to make things right with that. wish me luck. however, the deadlines will be met and my employer will be thoroughly impressed with my work capabilities and abilities to meet my deadlines. compensation is due.
next week things will slow down a little in my life. things to come still...it's fall so there's plenty of hunting yet to do so i'll be training summit. i'm finding tons of new music (check out my sidebar) and there happens to be a lot of shows in denver i hope to make this fall. next month i will be moving to frisco for an unknown duration as i am looking to purchase my own place. i also hope to be blogging more so these sparse blogs aren't so dreadfully long.
i'm ecstatic for fall to be here...hopes yours is amazing.

Glad to hear you had a great time on the hunt. And you could get an elk next year, or you could go to ACL next year and see all those bands on your sidebar! :)
