antigua
new years in antigua was a blast. mucho grande feista in the streets, thousands of people, many gringos, locals and tourist from guat. city. it was almost like a fair/circus if you will. food vendors everywhere. the the bell struck midnight they had U2's new years day blaring in the streets. the fireworks were amazing and huge, kids blowing up shit all night long and continued the next day. i'm not sure how i slept in as along as i did, wait...yes i do. antigua was definitely a bigger town which meant more denero. very posh considering the mountain towns we just came from. we shouldn't have stayed there as many days as we did, but there weren't any buses running on new years day and it ended up being a little more difficult to find a place to stay than expected, so it worked out well.
arrived in flores today, nothern guatemala, after a 5 hour bus ride yesterday to coban, then another 6 hour bus ride to make it here by noon today. it's hot here. pretty cool town that's surrounded by a lake and only one rode coming in.
we scratched the 'el mirador' five day hike. too much money and a local american we met here gave us some great tips on other ruins. so instead, we decided to check out three other mayan ruins for nearly a third of the cost. so we picked up a tent for 15USD (basically to keep the mesquitos away while we sleep) and some light food. plan on hiking to three different ruins in five days and camping four nights. first we'll check out Tikal. arrive there around 3pm tomorrow so our pass allows us access the next day where we'll be able to watch the sun rise over the ruin. then we're headed for Yaxha and Nakum ruins which are deeper in the jungle which means less tourists such as ourselves.
we fianlly got some photos uploaded. on the right tool bar i have linked the central america gallery in which you'll always be able to access the photos. i will also try an post new links throughout the trip. for now, here are pics of San Pedro, Chichicastenango and Antigua. (for simplicity, these are all linked through ma hermonos' gallery, mateo)

Great pics!! You have yet to tell us your central american alias. Hats off to mateo for putting up with your terrible morning drunk breath. If i had to camp with you, i'd need a can of menthol for my nose:) Cheers mates...carpe diem!

what's happening gringo? Sounds like you and Mateo are having a blast, little grungy, but fun nonetheless. I bet those mosquitos are huge.
