the review
the time had come for cyhsy to play in denver. i've had tickets since the first day they went on sale, and sell out they did. the weekend started out long, friends in town, snowboarding, trying to find the time to relax a bit, but that didn't happen. the weekend rolled right into monday night when a bunch of us went out for my bday and straight into tuesday night when cyhsy was in denver. i pulled through and am extremely happy i didn't wuss out on this show. being in denver, before i even got into the show, sort of reminded me how much i miss mpls, or maybe it was the fast-passed atmosphere a city encompasses. i saw alot of shows in mpls and this has been my first since moving to summit county.
then i entered the bluebird theater and instantly realized that i miss it terrribly. the venue small, sloped floors resembling an old movie theater containing a balcony for the pre-twenty-oners, small, yet not crazily crowded. the opening band is roaring through their gig while the crowd waits patiently for cyhsy to take the stage. the brunettes exit, everyone takes their toilet break, grabs another drink and slowly looks for a place to settle in for the time being, knowing that they'll inevitably end up closer due to the push of the crowd. lights dim and the soft sound of sunshine and clouds and everything proud begins playing while they take the stage. the crowd roars while alec begins playing frantically, you're now ten feet closer to stage without even noticing the migration. they play two more songs off of their self-titled debut album before emerging into a new song, which wasn't a disappointment...at all. they continued playing hard for an hour mixing in four to six of their new songs in which all made you impatient for their next album and reassured that they'll be around for awhile. time for the encore which they brought with four more songs, starting with the infamous clap your hands and leaving you, for the trip home, with upon this tidal wave of young blood ringing in your ears and a smile stretched just as far.
exhausted yet still energized you begin your journey home accompanied by a new feeling. feeling re-inspired, inspiration for what is unknown, but this feeling frequents your soul after seeing live music. the next morning you wake up finding yourself in front of the computer searching for the next show in your area...the next show that will fill this inane desire for this extraordinary feeling that you're lucky enough to experience.
