back on track
hola amigos.
as expected, the days have changed.
it's rained the past few days to start
at first the reaction is "it shouldn't be raining 3 days in summer"
but it was a really nice change, things are green again
I might have to mow for the second time
all looks healthy.
plumbers are here. they are roughies who yell to talk
it's good to get their help and this project ramping forward.
day 2 they'll get some house rules about that - no yelling, full stop.
day's are too precious to listen to yelling, which reminded me
I can't remember the last time I've heard raised voice,
I must be on the right path.
just a second... the garbage truck is here...
false alarm. i'll be listening for a big truck with squealing brakes
last week they didn't take my 5 garbage bags of drywall
they usually take whatever if I'm there to lift the heavy stuff.
my parents are coming next week.
talk about cleaning the house before the family comes
my cleaning will be more like mapping electrical outlets
getting a toilet in and a tub that works
and a kitchen sink with hose and bucket
at least some sort of kitchen semblance
we'll get the electrical done with mom and dad.
things start going back together.
yeah.

days unproductive
the kitchen still has the same studs remaining
the bathroom has the same unfinished walls
the tub the same location, as is the fixture
the plumbing still full of galvanzied chips
the electrical no more known than before
day unproductive
i walked around the house today, made several laps
thought about 12 different projects, made a sandwich
couldn't stop 5 min sits at the computer, made no job leads
day unproductive
which is better - lowes or home depot?
i went to lowes, it's closer, customer service terrible
i called home depot, prices exact with a friendly laugh
i bought some rock board for tile projects, it's in my truck
the coffee shop and bike shop are closed on mondays,
i couldn't even accomplish fun projects
day unproductive
so i made dinner, got ready for a swim
ate some sweet corn and tacos, didn't go swimming
transfered some files onto backup
took about a bathroom mirror
spray painted a cabinet, needs more sanding
sort of productive no?
but on the house, not so much
from experience these days pass
tomorrow will catch it up, i'm not worried
but i hate days unproductive
surfing the internet to kill time
makes for good days to post to the blog though

Backpacking...

last weekend synthia and i decided to embark on a backpacking trip. i talked to a friend who guides kids backpacking and he pointed us to a nice little hike with a cool lake we could fish at. the road to the trail head was long but the directions were quite clear. at the end of the road, where advised, there was to be a trail head sign. no sign. we decided to head back down the road to ask some people we saw earlier. we asked, they concurred it was the right trail and even gave us a map. thought that was nice of them. we put on our packs and were on our way. it was later in the afternoon but we weren't too worried about it since it was an easy 2-3 mile hike in. after some time of hiking we noticed we'd keep losing the trail and finding it again. i thought that was definitely weird considering the fact that my buddy guides kids on this trail. we pushed on only to lose the trail completely and not being able to find where it picked up again. however, we were near a four-wheeling trail so i decided i should ask once again. the guy in the jeep didn't know about the lake we were looking for and told us that the road he was on led to another lake, Hunky Dory Lake. i got out the trusty map and when i located the lake i was headed for and the lake we were near, my jaw dropped. we weren't even close, wrong trail head altogether. no big deal, we'll camp at this lake instead. the trail got steeper, the night pushed on and our legs were tired. we ended up getting to the top and saw a lake waaay down at the bottom of the other side of the ridge. not cool. we decided not to exhaust ourselves more by hiking down when it was so late...we still needed to set up camp. we were pleased with what areas the ridge had to offer and decided to set camp up on top and hike down in the morning...packless. the area turned out to be quite beautiful at night. we set camp, made some dinner, pasta, sauce, crackers, cheese and wine. the moon was full and reflected off of the snow still scattered across the ridge which made it a beautiful night.
the next morning we awoke to the surrounding environment ...amazing. it's breathtaking to wake up in the middle of the wilderness, no one else around, everything to ourselves. breakfast includes granola and fruit. we headed to the lake at the bottom and actually found what we had missed last night, 5 minutes from our site was Hunky Dory Lake. it was gorgeous. we fished there most of the morning and synthia learned how to fly fish. she picked up on it at an astonishing pace. she continued to impress.
the hike down was a bit dodgy considering we had to backtrack and find the original trail that would lead us to the jeep. after much deliberation and questioning we finally found it. all was well and it turned out to be an awesome trip.
